Comprehensive review concludes, volleyball head coach resigns

November 6, 2013 |

Indiana University East Chancellor Kathryn Cruz-Uribe announced that the results of a review of volleyball head coach Adam Stevenson ended with no findings of sexual harassment. However, Stevenson decided yesterday (November 5) to resign his position by mutual agreement.

Stevenson had been on administrative leave since October 28.

The announcement comes at the conclusion of a comprehensive review regarding concerns made by former members of the IU East volleyball team. The review, conducted by the IU Office of Affirmative Action and the IU East Offices of Affirmative Action and Human Resources, provided an opportunity for all current members of the volleyball team, former members of the 2013 team, the head coach, assistant coaches, and contracted athletic trainer to speak individually with the review team.

“We pride ourselves on a student-centered culture at IU East, and any time there are concerns raised by students, we take them seriously and review them carefully,” said Cruz-Uribe. “This was and continues to be the case. Our students, their well-being, and their success are at the heart of our mission as a university.”

Abby Niekamp will continue to serve as interim coach for the remainder of the season. Following the end of the season, a search process will begin for a volleyball head coach for the 2014-15 academic year.
