Scott Dunning

Indiana University East Chancellor Kathryn Cruz-Uribe and Interim Superintendent of Public Safety Bob True are pleased to announce the appointment of Scott Dunning as chief of the Indiana University Police Department at IU East.

Chancellor Cruz-Uribe said, “We welcome Chief Dunning to the IU East family in his more permanent role as chief. Scott brings with him years of experience in law enforcement and has extensive knowledge in campus and community policing. We look forward to what he will bring to IU East.”

Dunning, a lieutenant at IUPD-IUPUI, has been serving as interim chief at IU East since April. His appointment began on October 24.

“I am very excited about being a part of the family on the IU East campus and community,” he said. “I am committed to building the police department’s internal and external relationships and focus on strong community policing.”

Dunning, a native of Bloomington, Ind., began his criminal justice career as a correctional officer at the Monroe County Correctional Center before joining IUPD-Bloomington in 1995.

He obtained his law enforcement certification from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy.

Dunning, who joined IUPD-IUPUI in 2011, has extensive training in all aspects of law enforcement, including serving as a certified instructor in firearms, patrol rifles, and active shooter. At IUPUI, Dunning served as a patrol officer, sergeant, training coordinator, and lieutenant. He is currently enrolled at IU East and working toward his Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice.
