IU East Center for Leadership Development hosts Spring Leadership Forum

April 8, 2011 |

Indiana University East is establishing a Center for Leadership Development sponsored by the School of Business and Economics. The center is a campus and community resource focused on creating and offering leadership development initiatives to enhance the managerial and leadership capacities of the region.

The Center for Leadership Development provides leadership seminars, informational briefings, institutes and conferences to further advance the managerial and leadership capacities of individuals and companies in both business and community organizations. A primary purpose of the center is to link the academic resources of the School of Business and Economics to the economic development needs of the region.

IU East will host a Spring Leadership Forum on Thursday, April 21. The forum includes a continental breakfast from 7:30-8 a.m. followed by the presentation from 8-9:30 a.m. in the Community Room.

The leadership forum “The Talent Trap: Are you taking your best people for granted, assuming they will always be around?” covers what every employer needs to know about their people to stay competitive. Presented by Heather Haas, vice president and chief operating officer for ADVISA, the discussion will focus on how employees across every business sector have endured significant change and upheaval in the last couple years. What worked yesterday likely isn’t working today. Priorities and plans have changed dramatically, and while leaders have scrambled to recover and retool, employees have been left to do more with less.

Haas will share compelling research done by Walker Information, in partnership with the Indiana Business Council, revealing what Hoosier employers need to know to stay competitive.  For instance:

•    The top 16 percent of your employees produce 60 percent of the work?

•    Engagement for top talent has dropped 22 percent?

•    54 percent are actively pursuing other employment?

Haas will make powerful links between leadership style, employee engagement and retaining top talent so you can avoid “the talent trap.”

ADVISA is a management consulting firm based in Carmel, Ind., specializing in leadership, sales development, strategic planning, and the leading provider of human capital analytics in the United States.

Space at the leadership forum will be limited. The forum is free but participants must register in order to attend. The registration form is available on the IU East website at iue.edu/leadership.
