Indiana University East announced today (June 24) that the Tuition Reciprocity Agreement with Ohio institutions of higher education will be renewed.
The agreement means that IU East will continue to offer Ohio students in neighboring counties in-state tuition rates. The renewal of the Tuition Reciprocity Agreement follows the approval of the Indiana Commission for Higher Education and the Ohio Board of Regents and becomes effective July 1, 2009. The reciprocity agreement allows Indiana and Ohio institutions of higher education to expand postsecondary opportunities across the states’ borders while limiting the cost to taxpayers.
“We are excited to announce that the reciprocity agreement between Indiana and Ohio has been renewed,” said Chancellor Nasser Paydar. “Recognizing the importance of this agreement to our Ohio students and our ability to serve west central Ohio, we were pleased to play a role in leading these discussions.”
IU East students from Butler, Darke, Mercer, Preble, Shelby and Van Wert counties in Ohio are eligible for the tuition reciprocity. In-state tuition at IU East for the 2008-09 academic year was $172 per undergraduate credit hour; out-of-state was $444 per credit hour. More than 10 percent of IU East’s students residing in Ohio receive reciprocity.
“West central Ohio is a very important part of IU East’s regional mission,” Paydar said. “We will continue to serve that region and provide access to affordable, high-quality baccalaureate and master’s degree programs.”
Students must meet regular admissions requirements. The reciprocity agreement includes students enrolling for IU East bachelor’s and master’s degree programs. For students who apply to the institutions of higher education involved in the reciprocity agreement, it is guaranteed through completion of their academic program.
The reciprocity agreement is a collaboration among the institutions to create availability of programs on either side of the state border counties without duplicating education efforts and to most efficiently use educational facilities and resources.
