IU East Chancellor Kathryn Cruz-Uribe is presented with a gift from Susie Danielson Anderson on behalf of the estate of her parents, Danny and Patty Danielson.

Indiana University East received a $100,000 gift from the estate of Donald C. “Danny” and Patty Danielson on December 8 to the Danielson Learning Center in New Castle, Ind.

The gift was presented by the Danielson’s daughter, Susie Danielson Anderson, on behalf of her sisters, Mary Johnson and Amy Thompson. Anderson was accompanied by her husband, Duane Anderson, while she presented the gift to IU East Chancellor Kathryn Cruz-Uribe.

“It is with great joy that my sisters and I present this gift of $100,000 to the Indiana University Foundation for the benefit of the IU East Danielson Center as directed from the estate of our father and mother. Our hope, and theirs, is that it will result in much good to others and thanksgiving to God,” Anderson said.

Anderson said her parents’ faith was a very strong element behind the gift to continue to support Henry County and higher education for its residents through the IU East Danielson Learning Center.

“My parents believed that God was the giver of all that they had and they wanted to give back,” Anderson said. “My father really believed in education as being a great conduit for people to improve their lives.”

Throughout their lives, the Danielsons were actively involved in projects that supported the Henry County community and Indiana University. Through their leadership and philanthropic support, the couple was a driving force in the creation of IU East’s Danielson Center in 1999. They were also instrumental in establishing the Henry County Community Foundation, the Henry County YMCA and building the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame which is located in New Castle, Ind.

“Danny and Patty truly led by example and have left a lasting legacy on this community and on IU East. Their philanthropy will continue to improve the lives of others for many years. They are certainly an inspiration that we can all look to as an example of community altruism and leadership,” said Cruz-Uribe.

During Tuesday’s presentation, Anderson also presented checks to the Henry County Community Foundation, the Henry County YMCA and the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame.

Danny Danielson passed away in May 2015. Patty Danielson passed away in December 2013.
