Edwina Helton, professor of English, and Jeffrey Jones, adjunct professor of public affairs, recently received approval by Apple for their books Posters of the New Deal and The New Deal in Photographs to be available on iPad and iTunes.

The Posters of the New Deal book is a compilation of the Work Projects Administration (WPA) Poster Collection produced from 1936 to 1943 to publicize exhibits, community activities, theatrical productions, and health and educational programs.

The New Deal in Photographs is a pictorial record of American life between 1935 and 1944.

Fredricka Joyner, associate professor of business administration and organization behavior, presented “The Welcoming Community Initiative: One Community’s Journey to Create an Intentionally Inclusive Community Culture” at the 37th Annual Neighborhoods USA Conference held May 25 in Indianapolis.

The presentation focused on work over the last decade in Columbus, Ind., to bridge the diversity divide and intentionally create an inclusive, welcoming community culture.

The conference theme was “Communities Building Community.”

Marcy Jance, assistant professor of business administration, had her case study “Statistics and the Entrepreneur” published in the Academy of Business Research Journal, Volume I 2012. The Academy of Business Research Journal is an interdisciplinary journal dealing with issues in business and education. The mission of the journal is to support researchers and practitioners in the application of business and industrial development.

Joanne Passet, professor of history, recently had two articles published. “Hidden in Plain Sight: Gay and Lesbian Books in Midwestern Public Libraries, 1900-1969,” published by Library Trends and “Barbara Grier, 1933-2011: We Had a Wonderful Time,” published in Sinister Wisdom in the Winter 2012 edition.

Passet presented a paper in Boston at the 42nd national meeting of the Popular Cultural Association/American Culture Association. As one of four speakers for a session “On Sex and Text: Feminist Print Cultures of the 1970s and 1980s,” she presented a paper entitled “Testing the Limits of Community: The Politics of Publishing Lesbian Nuns: Breaking Silence.”

Also, Passet has been reappointed to a three-year term on the Board of Trustees for the Kinsey Institute for Research on Sex, Gender, and Reproduction. The Kinsey Institute, which is located at Indiana University Bloomington, works toward advancing sexual health and knowledge worldwide.

Anita Morgan, assistant professor of accounting, will be presenting “Do Online Homework Management Systems Impact Student Performance” at the Sloan Consortium’s Fifth Annual Emerging Technologies for Online Learning International Symposium. The symposium will be held in Las Vegas July 25-27, 2012.

Morgan’s presentation will provide the results of her research on the impact of MyAccountingLab on student performance in accounting courses.

Marsha Williamson, senior lecturer in nursing, has met the requirements as an inpatient obstetric nurse from the National Certification Corporation (NCC). Williamson completed educational and practice requirements and passed a rigorous examination covering specialty areas to receive the certification.

She joins the over 100,000 health care professionals that have earned the prestigious NCC credential since 1975. Maintenance of the credential is required every three years and involves a continuing competency assessment and continuing education. NCC is a not for profit organization that sponsors a national certification program in the obstetric, gynecologic and neonatal specialties. NCC is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies.

Matt Wills, assistant professor of informatics, has had his book chapter entitled, “Individual, Organizational and Technological Barriers to EHR Implementation,” accepted for a forthcoming book, “Cases in Health Information Technology for Patient Care Management” by Idea Group Publishers. The book, comprised of Health Information Technology (HIT) teaching cases, will be available this fall.

Also, Wills’ paper, “Evaluating the impact of electronic health records on clinical reasoning performance: A TTF perspective,” has been accepted for publication in the proceedings of the 18th Americas Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS). He will present the paper in Seattle, Wash., August 9-11, 2012.
