Indiana University East recognized several faculty and staff during the Honors Convocation ceremony held April 23. Presented during the ceremony were the Trustee IU East Faculty Recognition awards and staff service recognition awards.

Paula Baumann, assistant professor of nursing, is this year’s recipients of the Helen Lees Award, established in 1991. Professor Emeritus Lees passed away in 1992, but her spirit continues in this annual award to honor a full-time faculty member who has taught at least 10 semesters at IU East. This award recognizes excellence in teaching by a full-time faculty member over a sustained period of time.

Carrie Longley, assistant professor of fine arts, is the recipient of the New Faculty Award for Teaching. This award recognizes excellence in teaching by an utenured faculty member throughout their first four years at IU East.

Stephanie Whitehead, assistant professor of criminal justice, is the recipient of the Progress Award for New Faculty. The Progress Award is a symbol of achievement for new faculty members as they are establishing their careers at IU East. This award recognizes exceptional progress in teaching, research and service.

Rosalie Aldrich, assistant professor of communication studies, received this year’s Award for Excellence in Research. This award recognizes excellence in research and/or creative work by a full-time faculty member over a sustained period of time.

This award recognizes distinguished service—campus, community or professional, either one-time or sustained, by a full-time faculty member above and beyond the standard expectations of any compensation or release time provided for the service.

Cathy Foos, associate professor of philosophy, received the Faculty Special Achievement Award. Foos will retire this summer. This award recognizes outstanding all-around achievement, either short-term or sustained, by an IU East faculty member, and can be awarded for any combination of teaching, research and service.

Awards were presented to an outstanding support staff member and professional staff member who have made significant contributions to IU East during the past year.

Liz Ferris, career and experiential learning coordinator for University College, received the Professional Council Service Award and Diana Fahl, administrative specialist for the School of Natural Science and Mathematics, received the Staff Council Service Award.

The recognition honors a student employee who has demonstrated excellence in attitude, commitment, teamwork, contribution, and inspiration in their job at IU East. Lemar is a junior nursing major from Greenville, Ohio. She works in the Office of Admissions as a student ambassador and she also works for the Office of Academic Support Services.
