Indiana University East and Ivy Tech Community College partnered to host the 2008 Spring Job Fair on Friday, April 11. The event marked the first time the institutions have collaborated on a job fair.

The effort brought 40 area employers to the education park. Students from IU East, Ivy Tech Community College and Purdue College of Technology at Richmond interviewed and talked with the employers.

Belinda Wyss, director of the IU East Career Planning & Placement Center, said Friday’s first collaborative job fair for the two institutions was a success.

“Our intentions in working together were to demonstrate to the community that we not only share a campus but we are here to serve the community together. This truly was a sharing experience between our two institutions,” Wyss said.

We received such positive feedback from our students, faculty and staff and the employers who participated.  I feel it is imperative that we continue this endeavor for future years,” Ivy Tech’s Career Services Assistant, Gail D. Riggs, said.

The two institutions will look to partner more in the future. On March 4, IU East and Ivy Tech Community College announced their partnership to enhance learning opportunities for residents of east central Indiana and west central Ohio by signing a statement of mutual purpose. The statement acknowledged the institutions’ distinctive educational missions and declared their commitment to working together to provide efficient and affordable academic programs to their surrounding communities.
