The Indiana University East School of Humanities and Social Sciences and Writers Club will host poet Juan J. Morales as he presents, “Riding the Zombie Wave: Conventions and Investigations of the Undead,” from 6-7 p.m. on Monday, March 19, in Whitewater Hall room 132. This event is sponsored by Mindful Explorations, courtesy of the William H. and Jean R. Reller Endowment.

The event is free and open to the public.

Morales will also conduct a workshop with students on Tuesday, March 20, from noon to 1 p.m. in the Distinguished Alumni Room, located in Springwood Hall.

Also on March 20, a poetry reading and Writing Award announcements will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. in the Community Room. This event is free and open to the public.

“Juan is an engaging speaker and will be presenting on a range of topics delivered in diverse formats in order to appeal to a broad audience.  His visit promises to be engaging, educational, and entertaining,” said Katherine Frank, dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences.

Morales was born in the U.S. to an Ecuadorian mother and a Puerto Rican father. His first collection of poetry, Friday and the Year that Followed, was published in 2006 by Bedbug Press, Inc. His poetry has also appeared in Acentos Review, Copper Nickel, Palabra, Pilgrimage, Poet Lore, War, Literature, The Arts, Washington Square, Zone 3, and other journals. He is a CantoMundo Fellow, a member of the Con Tinta Advisory Circle, and the director of Creative Writing and an assistant professor at Colorado State University-Pueblo. Morales received his Master of Fine Arts from the University of New Mexico.
