University College underway with hire of executive director
Carrie Heller is the executive director of University College, a new office established at Indiana University East to provide first-year students with the academic and personal support they need to be successful. Heller began her duties on June 1. Heller has a M.S. in College Student Personnel Administration from Canisius College in Buffalo, NY.

University College encompasses academic advising, career and life coaching/counseling, and collaborates with Student Support Services and Multicultural Affairs to assure that students are connected to all available resources. University College works closely with the Office of Retention Programs to track student progress and offers support for the First-Year Seminar.

Campus Library welcomes new director
Frances Yates began her duties as the director of the Campus Library on July 1. Yates’ main responsibility is to lead the library team to provide students and faculty with the most appropriate information and research resources and services. Yates said the library’s goal is to enhance the information fluency of every student at IU East.

Yates received her Bachelor of Arts in Education, specializing in communications, from Purdue University. She received her master’s and specialist degrees in Library and Information Science from Indiana University. Previously, Yates was a librarian for six years at Miami University in Oxford.

New staff at IU East
University College brings a new staff member to the IU East campus. Lindsey DeCarlo recently joined the staff as the student coach and counselor on July 6.

In the School of Natural Science and Mathematics, Anna Box is the new science lab specialist. She has been a part of the science lab since June 22.

In the coming weeks, IU East will welcome a new nursing advisor in the School of Nursing. Chad Beanblossom will begin advising nursing students on July 27.

The Office of Financial Aid will welcome a second associate director. Ben Reed will work with current associate director Sarah Soper beginning August 3.

Financial Aid assistant director appointed to ISFAA committee
Sarah Soper, associate director of Financial Aid, was recently appointed chair of the Indiana Student Financial Aid Association (ISFAA) Agency Coordination Committee. The committee assists in the coordination of financial aid administration and communications with Indiana Department of Vocational Rehabilitation, Indiana Workforce Development, and other similar agencies.

External Affairs director appointed to I-CASE Board
Rob Zinkan, executive director for External Affairs, has been appointed to the Indiana Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (I-CASE) Board. I-CASE is dedicated to the professional development of university advancement professionals in Indiana, and offers opportunities for networking, professional services and expertise, and engagement in professional development.
