External Affairs directors presented at Blog Indiana, eduWeb

Rob Zinkan, vice chancellor for External Affairs, and John Oak Dalton, director of Communications and Marketing, presented “Social Web Integration: Are You “All In?”” at the annual Blog Indiana social media conference held August 20-21 in Indianapolis. The presentation shared IU East’s innovative approach to integrating social media into its overall marketing mix.

Blog Indiana focuses on organizing and promoting social media-related conferences, meetups, and other events.

Earlier this summer, Zinkan and Dalton were invited to present at eduWeb, an internationally recognized conference for professionals in higher education. They presented “The Heretic’s Guide to Marketing to Millennials” at the annual conference held July 26-28 in Chicago.

Art lecturer’s mural placed in national digital library

Pamela Bliss, adjunct instructor in fine arts and an IU East alumna, received a place in Heritage Preservation’s ARTstor Digital Library, an academic research tool, for her Hoagy Carmichael mural. Bliss’ mural is one of 500 murals selected for historic preservation and documentation to ARTstor. The digital library serves to preserve the nation’s murals through recording the work and making it available to others who work in the arts, architecture and the humanities.

IU East receives Veteran’s grant

IU East has been notified that the university received a $20,000 Operation Diploma grant to promote academic success among student veterans and service members.

Funds from the grant will be used to continue a peer mentor position and to create a part-time coach/counselor position designated to assist student veterans.

Operation Diploma is an initiative of the Military Family Research Institute at Purdue University. Launched with a $5.8 million gift from Lilly Endowment Inc., Operation Diploma empowers Indiana’s institutions of higher education and student veterans’ organizations to better serve student service members and veterans entering college for the first time, and those re-entering college after extended service or deployment.

IU East has an average of 60 students per semester who are veterans or who are serving in military forces.
