Music recitals bring holidays, Broadway to Vivian Auditorium
The public is invited to attend a duo recital on Thursday, December 4 featuring IU East students Danielle Phelps and Ryan Shaw. The performance will be held at 7 p.m. in Vivian Auditorium. It is free and open to the public.

Phelps will perform Christmas favorites such as;O Holy Night,” “Santa Baby,” “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus,” and “Christmas Is.” She started singing when she was 5 years old and her love for music has grown since. Phelps is a senior majoring in general studies. She participated in both Wayne County Idol and Preble County Idol and hopes to become a professional singer.

Shaw is also a senior at IU East majoring in secondary education. He will be singing Broadway Through the Years with selections from the Lion King, The Little Mermaid, Wicked, Sweeny Todd, and perform a duet from Big River with his brother, Kyle Shaw. Joy Swanders, IU East staff accompanist, will accompany both on the piano.

IU East students will have another recital the following night on Friday, December 5. The recital is at 7 p.m. in Vivian Auditorium and it is free and open to the public.

Registrar recognized for distinguished service
Dennis Hicks, registrar at Indiana University East, was awarded the Distinguished Service Award by the Indiana Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (IACRAO) at its annual meeting on November 13, 2008.

At the annual meeting, Hicks also presented two sessions, “eApprovals Through Electronic Workflow: eDrops to eGrade Changes and Beyond” and “How to Grow Professionally in IACRAO.”  Hicks served IACRAO as its associational president, 2006-2007 and immediate past-president, 2007-2008.

Additionally, Hicks traveled to Anaheim, Calif., November, 14-16, 2008,  to serve as a member of the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO) “Nominations & Elections Committee (N&E).”  AACRAO is a nonprofit, voluntary, professional association of more than 10,000 higher education admissions and registration professionals who represent approximately 2,500 institutions in more than 30 countries.

The N&E committee, on which Hicks was elected to serve as next year’s vice chair, was tasked with selecting the 2009 national slate of officers for the AACRAO association.
