IU East to hire 13 full-time faculty for fall 2008

In a major move forward for Indiana University East, the university has begun one of its largest searches with plans to hire 13 faculty members for fall 2008. This group of recruits will join 84 full-time faculty who excel in teaching and scholarly activity.

The additional faculty will support IU East’s expanded mission as a comprehensive bachelor’s and master’s degree institution. “We anticipate continued growth,” said Interim Chancellor Nasser Paydar. IU East fall enrollment grew by 4 percent in credit hours, the largest growth of any IU campus, and the campus welcomed its largest ever freshman class. “These faculty will help us play a more vibrant leadership role in enhancing the cultural, intellectual, and economic vitality of the communities we serve.”

The opportunity to add 13 faculty is a result of the current and projected enrollment growth and the success of the recent reorganization of the campus’s administrative structure. “Our reorganization placed greater emphasis on academics,” said Paydar. “It not only has prepared us for future growth and fulfillment of our new mission, but it also has created several efficiencies.”

Faculty hired will fill positions in the Divisions of Education, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Natural Science and Mathematics, and in the School of Nursing. IU East is conducting a national search for each of the positions. To view a complete list of the postings, please visit www.iue.edu/administration/hr.
