IU East’s “Let’s Talk” series includes discussion on diabetes, teenage pregnancy and addictions

The fourth “Let’s Talk” series is set to return this spring with discussions focused on current topics and concerns including diabetes, teenage pregnancy and addictions. “Let’s Talk” will be broadcast live on Comcast Channel 20.

“Let’s Talk” is an interactive forum for students, faculty, and members of the community. The series is sponsored by the Indiana University East School of Humanities and Social Sciences.

The first “Let’s Talk” discussion will broadcast from 7-8 p.m. on Tuesday, February 10. The speakers are from Reid Hospital & Health Care Services and include Matt Bailey, pharmacist; Christie Ferriell, manager of Diabetes & Nutrition Education & Clinical Nutrition; and Erica Kretchman, D.O., Endocrinology/Metabolism.

Diabetes is a serious, costly and growing public health problem in the United States and Indiana. This presentation will cover ways to prevent diabetes as well as ways to manage living with diabetes. Additionally, information about local resources available will be provided. This is a great opportunity to learn some tips, find resources, and discuss questions or concerns about your health.

Speakers are Amy Keene, director of Preventing Adolescent Pregnancy for Girls Inc. of Wayne County; Amber Hibberd, physician’s assistant for the Wayne County Health Department; and Roxann McFarland, director of Diplomas Day Care.

Tuesday, March 10 – “Addictions” from 7-8 p.m. Broadcast live on Comcast Channel 20. Speakers are Jim Cohen from Birth to 5; Heather R. Buckland, MA, LMFT, LCAC, clinical supervisor for Meridian Health Services; and David Hill, counselor at Reid Hospital & Health Care Services.
