Professor of History Gene Cruz-Uribe will lead a trip, “Legends of the Nile,” to Egypt March 15-25, 2017. The trip is offered through the Indiana University Alumni Association’s (IUAA) Travel IU program. Cruz-Uribe, an Egyptologist, is the first IU East faculty member to serve as a travel director for a trip abroad with the IUAA.
At Indiana University East, outstanding undergraduate academic achievement is recognized by naming students who take 12 or more credits of graded coursework and obtained a 4.0 GPA to the Chancellor’s List.

Indiana University East’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration is on Tuesday, January 17. The day will feature keynote speaker Shawn Harper at 4 p.m. in Vivian Auditorium, located in Whitewater Hall. Refreshments will be served in Whitewater Hall Lobby prior to Harper’s speech at 3:30 p.m. Free shirts will be provided to guests.
For Indiana University East the past year has brought many celebrations, accomplishments and memorable moments. The campus experienced a record number of graduates who joined an alumni family now numbering over 9,000, celebrated the grand opening of the Student Events and Activities Center, and remembered the legacy of Chancellor Emeritus David Fulton who passed away.
Indiana University East hosted a High School Speech Tournament on December 3. Thirteen schools Indiana regional high schools competed, including 130 students, in 14 speech events.
The Office of the Chancellor sponsored the tournament through the IU East Strategic Innovation Fund.

Stephanie Whitehead has been appointed the new director of the Center for Teaching and Learning.
As director, Whitehead will provide leadership in best teaching practices to support effective student learning for all modes of instructional delivery. She will work with and supervise the CTL staff in developing and delivering faculty development opportunities for both full-time and adjunct faculty and teaching staff about best practices related to pedagogy, learning and assessment.
