Brittany Anderson and Felicia Chagdes have been chosen as the 2011 Lingle Scholars. The scholarship award will continue throughout their pursuit of a four-year degree at Indiana University East.

Anderson and Chagdes are both from Richmond, Ind., and graduated from Richmond High School in June 2011. Each graduated with honors and earned Academic Excellence.

Anderson will pursue a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education at IU East. She is the daughter of Ryan and Lisa Anderson of Richmond.

While at Richmond High School, Anderson was a Peer Helper and involved in several community activities.

Chagdes will pursue a Bachelor of Social Work at IU East. She is the daughter of Laura Fanin and Mark Chagdes, both of New Paris, and has a two-year old son.

The Lingle Scholar award was established by Paul and Pat Lingle in October 2005 in order to keep the best and brightest youth in Wayne County.

The scholarship is given to an incoming freshman student who has also been accepted to the IU East Honors Program, an academic program that provides an intellectually enriched curriculum for highly motivated students. Applicants must undergo an interview process with the Honors Program committee as well as with the Lingles.

Recipients receive a $2,000 annual scholarship over four years. Scholars are also congratulated by having their names added to the Lingle Scholars plaque.
