Indiana University East’s Hispanic Heritage Month celebration is going on now through October 15. Hispanic Heritage Month will have several events and activities offered by the World Languages and Cultures department and the School of Humanities and Social Sciences.

IU East welcomes new faculty member to the School of Humanities and Social Sciences

Indiana University East is pleased to welcome its newest faculty member to the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. Renee Kaufmann joined the school at the start of the spring 2015 semester.

Kaufmann, assistant professor of communication studies, received her Ph.D. in Communication Studies, her Master of Arts in Communication Studies and a Graduate Certificate in Distance Learning Development and Implementation from the University of Kentucky. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Middle Childhood Education from Ohio University.

IU East announces new dean of School of Humanities and Social Sciences

Ross Alexander is the new dean of the Indiana University East School of Humanities and Social Sciences, beginning January 1, 2015.RossAlexander

“Ross brings with him a wealth of knowledge, leadership and a solution oriented approach to the position of dean. As interim dean and associate vice chancellor, Ross has established a familiarity with the campus, faculty, students, and the community and he is a strong advocate for the school.  I am delighted to welcome him in his new role,” said Chancellor Kathryn Cruz-Uribe.

IU East students create over 200 ceramic bowls for Empty Bowls Luncheon Nov. 15

Students have been creating unique ceramic bowls by the dozens in the studio at Indiana University East.

Hour by hour, over 200 pottery pieces have been thrown on the pottery wheel, fired, glazed and fired again.

Whitewater Valley Annual Art Competition Top Ten, Exhibit Entrants Announced

Indiana University East is announcing the inclusions of the Whitewater Valley Annual Art Competition during a reception for the artists. The 36th Annual Whitewater Art Competition was held October 18 at IU East. This year’s competition was juried by David Klamen, the Chancellor’s Professor of Fine Arts at Indiana University Northwest and prominent Chicago artist.

IU East celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with campus, community events

Indiana University East will present Alice Driver from 5-6 p.m. on Monday, September 22,  in the Whitewater Hall Community Room. Driver, a photojournalist in Mexico, will present on her upcoming book More or Less Dead. She will also talk about her work as a photographer and as a documentary filmmaker. Her documentary film is If Images Could Fill Our Empty Spaces.
