Indiana University East will host “Homecoming 2014: This is How We Do It” November 10-15. Alumni, friends and the campus community are invited to participate in the activities and events throughout the week. Homecoming events are sponsored by the Alumni Association, Office of Campus Life, Student Activities Advisory Team, Student Government Association, and Students Today Alumni Tomorrow.
Indiana University East is planning several events in Richmond’s Historic Depot District during its 2013 Homecoming week, October 21-26.
“Everyone is really looking forward to all the great Homecoming events and activities on and off campus,” said Director of Gift Development Stephanie Hays-Mussoni. “The events in the Depot will be a great way to include the community in IU East Homecoming traditions. Students, faculty and staff are also excited to spend more time in the Depot District which is quickly becoming a regular gathering place for IU East students. The Depot merchants have been tremendous partners in all of these activities and we look forward to many more opportunities to bring community and campus together.”
The Indiana University East Faculty Senate during its Feb. 5 meeting approved a resolution to add a women’s basketball program.
The Indiana University East School of Humanities and Social Sciences will host the “Let’s Talk” series to discuss current topics and concerns. “Let’s Talk” is an interactive forum for students, faculty, and members of the community to discuss current topics and concerns, free of charge.
In the spirit of giving, the Becky Melton Scholarship has been established at Indiana University East by donors in honor of Melton’s selfless act to donate a kidney to Jerry Wilde, professor of education.
Gifts to the scholarship have generated enough funds to endow the scholarship. To date, IU East has received $13,700 through direct donations and a celebration hosted by Jerry and his wife, Polly Wilde.
The Indiana University East men’s basketball team will face No. 15 seed Warner (Fla.) University on March 8 in the first round of the 32-team event in Point Lookout, Mo. First-round games are March 7 and 8 at the College of the Ozarks’ Keeter Gymnasium. The Red Wolves (24-7) and the Royals (23-10) tip off at 2:45 p.m. IU East time on Thursday, March 8.
The match will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 19, at the Richmond High School Tiernan Center. The Lions are 27-8 and ranked 25th in the Tachikara-NAIA Volleyball Coaches Top 25 Poll.
In response to changes in the Richmond High School dress code, IU East staff will give away logo t-shirts to Richmond High School students at Red Wolves volleyball matches on Saturday, September 26, and Monday, September 28.
Indiana University East has a name for the Red Wolves mascot. “Rufus the Red Wolf” debuted in person during the IU East/Holiday Inn Richmond Homecoming Classic basketball tournament held in November. After seeking nominations from the community for a name, the university received 162 suggestions.

students were named the 2008 Homecoming King and Queen during the bonfire Thursday, November 6 after the nominees had been narrowed to three lords and three ladies. The Homecoming Royalty was also introduced during the IU East/Holiday Inn Richmond Classic men’s basketball homecoming tournament November 8.
