Indiana University East has received continued accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (HLC). The HLC’s next comprehensive evaluation of IU East will take place in 2021-22.
Indiana University East School of Social Work and Community Care In Union County, Inc. (Head Start/Early Head Start programs) in Liberty, Ind., have developed a close working partnership over the past 12 years. In the last year, IU East has been invited to expand its role as the program’s mental health consultant making this a unique collaboration between the programs.
Compared to this same time last year, IU East student enrollment (3,348) increased 12.5 percent in headcount and 12.4 percent in credit hours (33,298.5). Both figures are historic highs for spring semester enrollment at IU East. The headcount enrollment is an increase of 373 additional students compared to the same time last year.

IU East’s, growth – a 65-percent enrollment increase over the past four years – innovation, and community college collaboration have garnered national attention.
Elliott McKinley, assistant professor of music and music program coordinator, knows that his work as a composer will ultimately enhance the learning experience of his students in the classroom. Active as a professional composer, he has composed music that has been performed throughout the United States, Canada and Europe.
Indiana University East’s continued growth has resulted in another semester of record-breaking enrollment. Student enrollment (3,725) has increased by 10.7 percent this fall semester, while student credit hours (36,590.5) increased 9.5 percent over last fall. Both figures are new record highs for the campus, breaking marks set last fall.
Indiana University East will welcome the Class of 2015 on Tuesday, August 23, to celebrate the start of the academic year.
New students to IU East are enrolled in First-Year Seminar, a University College course for first-year students to help them succeed in college.
The Indiana University East Office of Student Support Services has received a $1.39 million grant from the United States Department of Education. IU East will receive $278,000 a year over the next five years under the grant.
