Larry and Jane Richards have donated $25,000 to endow a scholarship for an Indiana University East tennis player, the proceeds of which will be matched annually by Indiana University to create a $2,250 annual scholarship. The scholarship will be named after distinguished IU East alumna and accomplished professional tennis player Venus Williams and will help support a participant in IU East’s intercollegiate tennis program for up to four years.
While preparing for the Miami Open in Key Biscayne, Fla., Shelby Rogers was also making arrangements to talk with her academic advisor at Indiana University East so that she could register for summer and fall classes.
Venus Williams is officially an alumna of Indiana University East.
Williams was presented with her diploma on August 14 at IU East, located in Richmond, Ind. Williams, who earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree, completed her last online courses at IU East this summer and was able make her first visit to campus as she traveled to the Western Southern Open (WSO) August 15-23.
