WVAAC announces juror for 30th competition anniversary

The 30th Whitewater Valley Annual Art Competition will be juried by James Yood, an adjunct full professor in contemporary art history and criticism at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in the Department of Art History, Theory and Criticism. He is also the director of the New Arts Journalism program.

Yood has traveled nationwide to lecture on issues in modern art including the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, the Terra Museum of American Art, the St. Louis Art Museum, the Museum of Art and Design in New York, and the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh among several others.

The authors of several books, he is also a Chicago regional correspondent for Artforum and writes regularly for GLASS magazine, American Craft, Art on Paper, and Aperture. He is a consultant to Encyclopedia Britannica in modern and contemporary and a regular correspondent to WBEZ National Public Radio in Chicago. Yood has served as a panelist for the National Endowment for the Arts.

Yood received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin and his master’s from the University of Chicago where he is also a candidate for his Ph.D.
