Welcome to Natural Science & Mathematics
White coats. Test tubes. Equations. These are all a part of the world of natural science and mathematics. But there is much more. You might be interested in these degree programs if you’re observant and detail oriented, curious about the world around you and how things and people work and interact.
Indiana University East students in the School of Natural Science and Mathematics enjoy:
- Modern techniques and research facilities including:
- UV-Visible spectrophotometry (UV-V)
- Gas chromatography-mass spectrometer (GC-MS)
- Atomic absorption spectrometry (AA)
- Fourier transform infrared spectrometry (FTIR)
- Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)
- High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)
- Computer based laboratory sensors
- Many opportunities to pursue independent research projects in biology and biotechnology, chemistry, physics and the environmental sciences, frequently leading to publications and presentations.
- Practical experience through service-based learning and internships, with certification in laboratory science.
- Personal attention from faculty including opportunities to experience working one-on-one with a faculty mentor.

Degrees and Programs
The Indiana University East Bachelor of Science (BS) in biology provides students with a background in biological sciences for the purpose of preparing students for careers in biology, medicine, pharmaceuticals and related fields. The degree is flexible enough to prepare students for entry into professional schools or to begin a variety of science careers. The Bachelor of Science (BS) in biotechnology is designed to prepare students for careers in human and animal health, food science, medicine, pharmaceuticals or agriculture. The Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Natural Science and Mathematics with concentrations in biology, mathematics or interdisciplinary studies, is designed for students who are interested in the flexibility and diversity of a liberal arts degree and the opportunity to pursue more extensive study in natural science and mathematics. The School of Natural Science and Mathematics also offers a Laboratory Science Certificate and minors in biology, chemistry, or interdisciplinary environmental studies. (NSM Degrees.)
