ACADEMIC GUIDELINES for
NAIA ATHLETIC ELIGIBILITY

To become certified for athletic competition, students must meet the following  requirements:

DIRECT-OUT-OF HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS: INITIAL ELIGIBILITY

FALL SPORTS

  • Receive official clearance from the NAIA Eligibility Center
  • Meet all Admissions requirements-including receipt of all final, official transcripts
  • Meet 2 of the following 3 academic requirements:
    • A minimum score of 18 on the Enhanced ACT or 860 on the SAT (see note below);
    • An overall high school grade point average of 2.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale;
    • Graduate in the upper half of the student’s high school graduating class.
  • Be currently enrolled in 12 credit hours or more
  • Declare a bachelor degree major

Notes: (1) If a student took the ACT before March 2016, the minimum accepted score is 18.  If a student too the ACT in March 2016 or later, the minimum accepted score is 16.  (2) If a student took the SAT before March 2016, the minimum accepted score is 860.  If a student took the SAT in March 2016 or later, the minimum accepted score is 940.

SPRING SPORTS

  • Receive official clearance from the NAIA Eligibility Center
  • Meet all Admissions requirements-including receipt of all final, official transcripts
  • Meet 2 of the following 3 academic requirements:
    • A minimum score of 18 on the Enhanced ACT or 860 on the SAT (see note below);
    • An overall high school grade point average of 2.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale;
    • Graduate in the upper half of the student’s high school graduating class.
  • Have earned a minimum of 9 credit hours in the fall semester
  • Be currently enrolled in 12 credit hours or more
  • Maintain a minimum, cumulative GPA of 2.0
  • Declare a bachelor degree major

Notes: (1) If a student took the ACT before March 2016, the minimum accepted score is 18.  If a student too the ACT in March 2016 or later, the minimum accepted score is 16.  (2) If a student took the SAT before March 2016, the minimum accepted score is 860.  If a student took the SAT in March 2016 or later, the minimum accepted score is 940.

TRANSFER STUDENTS: INITIAL ELIGIBILITY

FALL SPORTS

  • Receive official clearance from the NAIA Eligibility Center – if necessary
  • Meet all Admissions requirements-including receipt of all final, official transcripts
  • Complete the NAIA Transfer Player Eligibility Statement
  • Be currently enrolled in 12 credit hours or more. Have earned a minimum, combined cumulative GPA of 2.0 from all previous institutions
  • Have earned a minimum of 24 credit hours in the 2 immediately previous terms of attendance
  • Transfer hours from previous institutions are calculated at face value only for the first term of attendance at IU East
  • Thereafter, only transferred credit hours accepted by IU East and posted to the IU East transcript will be used for calculating athletic eligibility
  • Declare a bachelor degree major

SPRING SPORTS

  • Receive official clearance from the NAIA Eligibility Center – if necessary
  • Meet all Admissions requirements-including receipt of all final, official transcripts
  • Complete the NAIA Transfer Player Eligibility Statement
  • Be currently enrolled in 12 credit hours or more
  • Have earned a minimum, combined cumulative GPA of 2.00 from all previous institutions
  • Have earned a minimum of 24 credit hours in the 2 immediately previous terms of attendance
  • Transfer hours from previous institutions are calculated at face value only for the first term of attendance at IU East
  • Thereafter, only transferred credit hours accepted by IU East and posted to the IU East transcript will be used for calculating athletic eligibility
  • Declare a bachelor degree major

ALL STUDENT ATHLETES: CONTINUING ELIGIBILITY

  • All student athletres must maintain a minimum, cumulative GPA of 2.0 at IU East.
  • All student athletes must be currently enrolled (not waitlisted) in 12 credit hours or more.
  • All student athletes must have earned 24 credit hours in the two immediately previous terms of attendance (unless terms of attendance is equal to second term) including credit hours earned in the term after one or both of the two immediately previous terms of attendance
  • All student athletes must declare a bachelor degree major
  • All student athletes are awarded a total of 4 seasons of competition
  • All student athletes must complete the 4 seasons of competition within 10 full-time terms of attendance
