Welcome
As Chair of the General Studies program, I would like to welcome you to the School of Continuing Studies. A degree in General Studies is an excellent choice for students who are interested in a broad range of arts and sciences. It is also the most flexible degree that we offer, so it’s a favorite of busy adults.
As Indiana University East completes the transition into Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, we will be discontinuing our Associate degrees. Even now, no new students are being admitted into any Associate degree. However, if you are currently listed as working toward an Associate of Arts degree in General Studies, you will be able to receive this degree if you are making academic progress. If you are a new student who is interested in General Studies, you will be admitted into the Bachelor degree program.
The Plan of Study is an important document which will help you keep track of the classes that you need to complete your degree. Be sure to keep your Plan of Study updated and current. Remember, this is your degree and you are responsible for ensuring that you have completed all of the requirements.
Alpha Sigma Lambda is a National Honor Society for students who are majoring in General Studies. Each spring semester, students with an excellent academic record are invited to join. This elite group of students is inducted into Alpha Sigma Lambda during a ceremony held on campus. Society members who graduate with a Bachelor's degree in General Studies are awarded honor cords to wear at Commencement.
Again, welcome to the General Studies program at Indiana University East. You have made a great academic choice and you are joining a large group of students who are pursuing a degree that will prepare them for an endless number of careers.
Sincerely,
Dr. Mary Ann Morse
