Lady Pioneers Finish Season Sweep of Lady Harriers

Amy Stultz attacks(Hamilton, OH) Finishing their season series against Miami University-Hamilton, the Lady Pioneers were looking to play well as they prepare for a tough conference test on Saturday.  The Lady Harriers fell in 3 games in their first match against the Lady Pioneers 30-13, 30-14, and 30-9 at IU East.  Tonight, the Lady Pioneers ran into a much improved and scrappy Harrier squad.  The Lady Pioneers continued their record-setting season with a 30-14, 30-17, and 30-19 victory.  Their 13th victory of the season leaves them unbeaten in non-conference play and with a mark of 13-1 (0-1).

Statistically, the Lady Pioneers played very well against an opponent that they handled easily their first meeting.  However, they played a Hamilton team that consistently dug aggresive attacks.  Coach Charles Brown said, “The girls played solidly, but I want to hold them to a higher standard of play.  They need to consistently play at a high level to compete in our conference.”

For the night, the Lady Pioneers recorded 44 kills in 118 attempts for a team kill% of .212.  Allison Hoveln recorded 13 kills in 21 attempts for a .476 kill% as she was one of 4 Pioneers over .200 kill%.  Tera Brown had a .333 kill% to go along with 16 digs, Amy Stultz had 14 kills to lead the team and also had 17 digs, and Brittani Foreman led the team with a .500 kill% and also recorded 11 digs.  Kim Gerlach led the squad with 23 digs on fome very well-struck attacks.

The Pioneers return to conference play in a very important and challenging tri-match in Berea, KY on Saturday.  At 11:00 am, they play Berea College and at 1:oo pm they take the court against Brescia University.  They finish their final homestand beginning Monday against Miami-Middletown and end on Tuesday October 16 against Cincinnati Christian University.
