How to attach a file to your e-mail message:

Oncourse allows you to send many types of documents to the other people in your class.

You can send an entire paper to your classmates or to your instructor so that he or she can comment on it.

You can send a picture, a diagram, even a recording, or a movie. Anything that can be saved as an electronic file can be attached to an e-mail message.

The major limitation is that the file cannot be more than 1.5 M in size.

Here are the basic steps involved in attaching a file.

Send a Message

From Oncourse Mail

Inbox and New Mail window

Click on the underlined words near the top of the screen (Send New Mail Link)

Compose mail Message window

At the top of the new e-mail message screen, you will see two underlined words, Compose Linkand Attachment Link.

To add an Attachment:

Click on the word Attachment Link. Add mail Attachment window

A new window will open that will allow you to “Upload” your file so that it can be connected to your message.

Click on

Click on the Browse Button button.

You can now look thorough the hard drive and disks on your computer until you find the file that you want to attach.

Find the file on your computer.

Click on the name of the document when you find it and click on the Open button.

In this example, a Microsoft Word document that completes an assignment is attached to an e-mail message. When you select it from the disk, it appears in the Attachment window.  You must now upload this file to the Oncourse computer.

Click on the button that says Upload Now button.

The screen will change, showing you of list of the files that you have uploaded.

While you can attach more than one file to a message, it often makes more sense to the person receiving your files if each is attached to a message with an appropriate subject line.

Now, click  on Compose Link to complete your message.

You will see a small icon that looks like a sheet of paper next to the words Compose | Attachment . This is a reminder that you have an attachment.

Click on the name of the individual that you want to get the message .

You can send your message to the entire class, only the students, only the instructors, or any individuals you select from the scrolling box next to the To:

TIP: To select more than one person from the list, hold down the Ctrl key on a Windows/ PC or the  “Open Apple” key on a Macintosh Computer while you click on each name.

Type in an appropriate Subject: for the message. A brief note will tell the receiver what is in the attachment.

When you have everything complete, click on Send Now to put the message into the Inbox of the people you have sent it to.
