Student Learning Outcomes Assessment

Beginning in 1995, the faculty of Indiana University East developed a comprehensive program to assess student learning across all academic programs. This plan focused on the student  achievement of the seven Undergraduate Learning Objectives, first approved by the faculty in the mid-1980’s.

Assessment practices have expanded and improved as IU East has matured. Each degree program now has learning objectives specific to that discipline and a plan for gathering that assessment information. Student attainment of the Undergraduate Learning Outcomes is also determined through the assessment of general education as well from information provided by students on the annual National Survey of Student Engagement. Efforts to assess student learning in the co-curricular areas has begun. Together, these efforts represent a concerted effort by faculty and staff to create a culture of assessment throughout IU East, improving student learning experiences at every opportunity.
