Very nice...

05/20/2009

Today was very nice because I had lots of time to work on my computer before going with Ms. H. to the tailoress so we could pick up my newly made clothes.  I had two suits made--both are lovely but the one jacket needs a minor adjustment.  It amazes me how this woman can take a few measurements, cut out the pieces of a garment with no patterns, and when you try them on they fit perfectly.  She is part artist, part designer, part architect, part seamstress.  The library staff purchased some silk and had this beautiful ao dai made for me--you can only see the top, not the pants that go with it.  I'm sure I will wear it for special occasions like Beth's wedding and when I'm giving talks about my time here.  As a westerner, I have to say that this garment is a bit tricky to put on and the tailoress had to help me with it!

This evening I had a delicious dinner at Ms. V's home in the city.  Her family, Ms. H, and I had so much fun sitting around the table talking and laughing.  I shared a few American phrases with them, like "Jack of all trades" and "heart of gold."  During these five months, I've been privileged to meet so many people with hearts of gold.  Here's to international friendship!
