"I Was Carried to Ohio on A Swarm of Bees"

10/10/2010

"I was carried to Ohio on a swarm of bees"' Lyrics from The National's Bloodbuzz Ohio tune.

The National

So anyone else listen or have heard of The National? If you haven't and you like modern/Indie rock with mellow vibes and emotional lyrics which relate to everyday lives of the 20 year olds. This is a band for you.

I have enjoyed their music for over 5 years after a friend introduced me to them. They have been a top favorite music artists ever since. This year I finally had my chance to see them and twice. 1st time was at Bonnaroo, the second time was this past weekend in Indianapolis.

Owen Pallet

The opening act of the concert was a guy names Owen Pallett. I was very happy by this opening act. Most openers do not really cut it for me, but this guy was very creative in his performance. I am glad I was introduced to this artist. He mainly played the violin, but he used a loop pedal to build melodies and microphone tricks to create drum kits. All of this while he sung! Very Impressed!

Keyboard and Violinist

Lead Vocalist, I have a Man Crush on his Voice

The National did just what I expected, played a lot of new songs off of their most recent album, High Violet. This album is one of the top selling indie rock albums this year so far. Try it out. They also played some of their other favorites which, just my luck are mine as well. I am a sucker for their song "Abel."

Jumping down into the crowd

Yeah I was pretty darn close.

Action Shot of lead guitarist and drummer

"Tired and wired we ruin too easy, Sleep in our clothes and wait for winter to leave"

This band has been a large influence on my life. I hope for those that give them a try they do the same for you.

Well with all of that. I have homework to do and another concert to attend this week. MUSE!

Oh and I encourage all IU East Students to run the Nearly Naked Mile on Oct. 27th! I have  a great costume idea.

Stay tuned for a couple video blogs too!
