The naked Queen who eats raw Ramen and hunts ghosts. (Can you handle all of this)?

"My goal for this year was to bring a lot of attention to the event. It's a super cool school event, in my opinion. STAT members gathered about an hour before the run. We put on our crazy costumes and did a run-through in the school buildings. We chanted "nearly naked" as we ran... I'm counting on the underclassmen to make this an even bigger deal next year."

Okay, so it's around one in the morning right now. I am laying here thinking about last week. I figured it's about time to tell everyone about Homecoming. All I can say is, wow. Last week was so incredibly busy. It was full of many laughs and a lot of stressful moments. All in all, it was definitely the most memorable week at IU East for me.

For starters, I would like to give a shout out to all my friends and fellow Students Today, Alumni Tomorrow members. You guys were great last week. Thanks so much for dealing with my freak-outs! Haha.

The week started out pretty hectic. When Tuesday rolled around, our area experienced various bad storms and the occasional "tornado". Whether or not there was an actual tornado, who knows, but students spent quite some time in the basements of IU East until the storm passed. Meanwhile, I was at home alone, in my bathroom with my two cats, like a loser, while the tornado sirens were going off. The storm passed and I still had electricity so I was grateful for that. There was one good thing that came from the storm - the Homecoming Bonfire. We were under a fire ban at the time.  Since Mother Nature decided to go crazy on us with rain, the fire ban was lifted and we had our bonfire! :)

The same day, once the storm was over, I went to IU East for the Pep Rally. I received my Homecoming sash for making top three for Homecoming Court. That was pretty exciting!

Wednesday was the Nearly Naked Mile. Oh goody. My goal for this year was to bring a lot of attention to the event. It's a super cool school event, in my opinion. STAT members gathered about an hour before the run. We put on our crazy costumes and did a run-through in the school buildings. We chanted "nearly naked" as we ran. We received a lot of attention this way. It was definitely fun advertising haha. During the event, I stood on the short wall outside of Springwood Hall and guided people for registration and to the start line. If I remember correctly, we had 105 people sign up for the event. That's awesome, but next year when I'm no longer around, there better be more! I'm counting on the underclassmen to make this an even bigger deal next year.

I didn't go to the comedy show that night. I heard mixed things about it. I had to do homework. However, I can tell you about Thursday. Thursday was so intense. The Media Club Talent Show was at 5:30pm. The hours leading up to that were full of last minute practice, running around like crazy, trying to get walkie-talkies to work, you get the point. When the show started, all my nervousness disappeared and it was time to have fun. The opening act was a lot of fun (although I think I hit a few people in the face with glow sticks). Everyone did such a great job that night. Dave Snow from G101.3 hosted the show for us. He was awesome. During one of my acts, I came out with a "lifetime supply" or Ramen Noodles for our game winner. I took a huge bite out of it (straight from the bag) and smiled at the crowd. It was hilarious and incredibly disgusting. As soon as I went back stage I spit it all up. The things you gotta do to get a good laugh... But anyway, thanks to everyone who participated in the Talent Show. You all are so awesome and so talented!

After I went back stage, I received a call from Patrick Burns (paranormal investigator from TruTV's "Haunting Evidence"). He was at IU East. I was so excited and gracefully slipped behind the curtain and out the exit. It was freezing cold that night as I met Patrick and his girlfriend, Marley Gibson. They were both so incredibly nice! We (STAT members) had a lasagna dinner with them in The Den. We talked about everything from the crazy weather we just had, to ghosts, to RVs (Tom Raper haha), and more. They were truly great people and I felt a lot better about everything. Honestly, in situations like that, you never know what to expect of people. I felt like I already knew both of them.

Later that night, after the bonfire had been burning for a while, Patrick Burns came down and told us about his experiences with ghosts. Students asked questions for a little while and then it was time for the ghost hunt. Let me just say, those of you who left early, you were MISSING OUT. We first visited Hayes Hall (of course). We didn't pick up anything on the EVP recording in the basement. From there, we headed to Tom Raper Hall. We went to the second story right by the elevator. Of course, Stephen made the elevator come up and open so it looked like it was doing it by itself. Everyone was totally freaked out by that. We sat in the dim lighting and attempted more EVP recordings. We picked up a voice that sounded like it said, "Get out." People were so freaked out they were crying.

From there, we went to Tom Raper Hall's basement. Down there, we heard a lot of creepy noises as Patrick asked for the ghosts to communicate with us. Then, all of the sudden, something came from the ceiling and hit someone. It was a broken piece from a lock. It's quite possible someone threw it, but no one laughed, so it's hard to say who. People were begging for the lights to be turned back on, which made the situation somewhat funny.

After that, we went to Whitewater Hall. This is where we had the most luck with the ghosts. We went to the second story next to the room where they store brains and what not. Patrick used his K-2 Meter to communicate with ghosts in the building. For those of you who are unfamiliar with K-2 Meters, they are electromagnetic field detectors. We used the meter to ask the ghost yes or no questions. If the answer was no, the ghost would light the meter once. If the answer was yes, it would be twice. According to our questions and the meter, we were talking to a girl that died in the 1990's in a car accident in Ohio. She said she was in her 20's. The ghost claimed that something from her body is being used for education at the school (creepy). Now, I am in no way shape or form saying this is true or not true. I have my own beliefs and you have yours. I'm just telling you about our experience. ;) Whether you believe or not, I can definitely tell you the activity was a lot of fun. The best part about it was it meshed well with our Halloween-themed Homecoming.

Lastly, Saturday rolled around. I was on my way to Richmond High School for our Homecoming game/Homecoming King and Queen crowning. My stomach was flipped upside down. I was so incredibly nervous. Once I got there, it wasn't any better. I anxiously waited during the game. I just wanted to get it over with already. Halftime came around, we all walked out to the center of the court. I was paired with Devon Niehoff. I'd like to say sorry to whoever it was that read my gigantic biography. Devon looked down at me during the reading and said, "Jeeze, did your hand hurt after writing all of that?" I couldn't help but laugh. Then the moment came, the announcer said, "Your 2010 IU East Homecoming Queen is........." and I swear time froze. But then he said my name! I was SOOOOOOO HAPPY. I received the crown! I'm not going to lie, I had to leave the gym and cry a little bit. This week was so crazy and that moment was extremely overwhelming. Devon also received a crown. I'm so happy for him! :)

So yes, I am your 2010 Homecoming Queen. Thank you to everyone who voted for me and supported me throughout the process. I feel so lucky to have amazing friends. I also appreciate that people from IU East have recognized my hard work and dedication to the school. I have always had IU East's best interests at heart; I will continue to do so. IU East is an amazing place; the faculty and staff truly care about your journey to success. Everyone needs to know that. Do not be afraid to be your best here; there is nothing and no one to hold you back.
