The Perks of Physics...WAIT, what?

09/19/2012

HIII!! I hope everyone had a nice Wednesday! I have been busy all day (per usual) studying my tail off trying to prepare myself for my FIRST PHYSICS EXAM TOMORROW!! DUN DUN DUUNNNHHHHHH! I’m just going to ask myself on every question, ‘WWSD (What Would Sheldon Do)?’ and if that means writing the lyrics to ‘Soft Kitty’ for every answer, so be it. Ha! Just kidding! I do think that Physics is interesting, but it’s intensive. It is pretty cool to know about some things you would never even think about before, LIKE the degree and force needed to be applied to a football on the ground, from a certain distance, for it to just barely make it through the goal post. I can even help a pilot land a plane safely in a field now, if need be (although I’d probably just freak-out and yell ‘MAYDAY, MAYDAY!’ over the radio and let the pilot and his passengers have their own Lord of the Flies/Lost adventure). But on to the next, I thought that I’d recommend a book this week (so all of you weird perverts will put Fifty Shades of Grey down, PS- it’s LITERAL Twilight fan fiction!! Like picked-up off of the Internet! Stop it!), one that is super quick and really fascinating to read, The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky (the movie adaptation comes out this Friday!). I purchased the book a year and a half ago but never really had the time to commit to it, plus it was different and I wasn’t sure if I was ever going to get into it. BUT, to rest my mind the other night, I decided to read for pleasure ( a rare treat) and found it on my bookshelf, so I started reading it…then I couldn’t stop. It’s about a 15 year old boy who is trying to survive high school, and the author is, quite frankly, a genius in the way he presents the overall story. It was also nice to kind of parallel my life to what the main character is going through, in the way that, in both high school and college you’re in a weird limbo, preparing yourself for the next phase of your life. Since I am in the process of choosing grad schools and deciding what I truly want to do with my life, I constantly feel like I’m in this transitional, pre-adult phase which feels weird and semi-confusing; I don’t like it. But to leave you with a quote from my beloved Charlie (the protagonist in Perks, who has impeccable taste in music, I might add), ‘… please believe that things are good with me, and even when they’re not, they will be soon enough.’ Till next time, my friends- Kels xx
