PASSION

10/11/2012

The dictionary gives you many different definitions of the word passion. Honestly, I didn’t like any of the definitions I saw. And I think each of us can apply our own definition to the word. But the Merriam-Webster Dictionary said passion is: an intense, driving, or overmastering feeling or conviction.  People say they’re passionate about something, but are they really?  I think passion isn’t something you can just talk about being or having. Passion is an overwhelming and intense feeling that gradually grows within you. It continues to grow and get stronger until one day you realize that without that feeling, you’d be worthless. You wouldn’t know what else to do in order to get that same feeling.  I’ve said it for 13 years: “I’m passionate about volleyball!” I may have said it, but I never felt like I absolutely needed it to survive. Yes, I’ve been playing since I was in 4th grade. Yes, I’m successful and enjoy it. I think I was drawn to it because it was fun; I was good at it and I liked the competition.  It’s different now.  I have 15 regular season matches left of my volleyball career. And I can honestly look anyone in the eye and tell him or her that I am FOR SURE passionate about volleyball.  I’ve never wanted something so bad in my life.  I am passionate about volleyball because I would do anything to play. I would do anything to better my game. I would do anything for my team. I would do anything to better my teammates. I am passionate about volleyball because I eat, sleep, breath, and think about it all day, everyday.  What are you passionate about?
