Ambassadors

Heading into my last few semesters I am pleasantly delighted by how far I have come in my college career. . .

I have been an Admissions Ambassador for three years and I love it! I love the admissions staff and all the ambassadors. Ambassadors has allowed me to develop friendships that I might have missed out on! You grow into a big family that is able to lift you up when you are having a rough day or maybe even a rough week. I am blessed to be able to have these wonderful people as my friends. Being an ambassador I started out only introducing myself at student panel: "My name is Brooke Hartwig, I am a sophomore studying elementary education." The only thing still true in that sentence is that my name is Brooke Hartwig. I am a senior with two more semesters to go... Yes, I am taking five years to graduate with my bachelors but that is because I was an elementary education major for two and a half years but my path was changed all because of a book...The White Umbrella... read it if you get a chance! Now I am a criminal justice major in the cadet program for IUPD.

Last week was Scholarship Day for the Admissions office. I was asked to speak about my internship experiences at IUE. I told my story in front of forty people or so and I had to do it twice. I went from only introducing myself at student panel to doing a segment on internships all on my own. Ambassadors has really allowed me to develop my public speaking skills. Being able to speak  in a calm manner and be able to articulate what you mean in front of an audience is a skill that everyone needs. Luckily, a skill that ambassadors has allowed me to grow into.
