Police Academy: Week 2

06/1/2015

My body has yet to get use to waking up at 4:30 a.m. but I have been told that after the first two weeks the body will begin to adjust. We had our first "boot camp" pt session. The typical pt week is as follows:

  • Monday: Daily 7 exercises and a run

  • Tuesday: Boot camp/ Cross fit

  • Wednesday: Daily 7 exercises and a run

  • Thursday: Swim (muscle recovery day)

  • Friday: Daily 7 exercises and a run

The daily seven exercises are determined by our class leader. Every couple of days there is a new class leader. The class leader is responsible for calling the class to attention, counting the cadence during the daily seven exercises, picking the daily seven exercises, leading the class during the run, calling on other cadets to call cadence, delegating responsibilities such as who has the key to the classroom, who carries canteens and which four will wear yellow vests during our formation runs as well as reporting to the instructor if all cadets are present for instruction. As I mentioned before we had our first boot camp pt session. It was challenging but an enjoyable challenge. The first weekend report was given which is when two cadets volunteer to collect pictures from each cadet and put it in a PowerPoint giving a sentence about what each did over the weekend. I really enjoyed this because we were able to get to know each other better and laugh together.

This week we began our criminal law classes. The Monroe County Prosecutor's Office is instructing us and preparing us for our criminal law test in four weeks. The Prosecutor's Office distributed Miranda Warning cards that are in English and Spanish as well as the Indiana Criminal Code books. We also had an Indiana State Trooper present during our diversity training. Diversity training was four hours yet the class seemed to fly by. We had our second Spanish class which is always fun. Sergeant Luce is our Spanish instructor and makes the class entertaining and learning friendly. Drug investigations was the most entertaining class of the week. The instructor is a narcotics detective who was very experienced. His on the job experiences were hilarious.

Two weeks down and only twelve more to go!
