As a member of the IU East community, did you know that you can get free access to The Chronicle of Higher Education online? Or to The Washington Post? The main library at IU Bloomington has purchased premium access to The Chronicle of Higher Education and has set up an agreement to include access to all the regional libraries as well. You can easily access the site by going to from any IU East computer or from home via the library’s A-Z Database List at

The Washington Post, on the other hand, provides free access to anyone with an .edu, .gov, or .mil email address. If you are accessing the Post from an IU East computer, you should be able to access any Washington Post article directly from their site at, but if you are working from home, you can register for a free account using your .edu email address at

This summer, the IU East library has also received access to seven new primary source collections from Gale, filling in some of the gaps in our historical newspaper collections. We now have access to:

17th & 18th Century NICHOLS Collection of UK Newspapers

British Library Newspapers, PART V: 1746-1950

The Telegraph Historical Archive, 1855-2000

The Times (London), 1986-2011 (supplement to make The Times Digital Archive current as possible)

All seven of these databases can be accessed from our A-Z List, located on the library’s homepage under “Top Library Resources.” So, whether you are interested in current events or looking for primary sources for your research, the IU East library can help you find what you need. Just ask us!
