Student Research Day – a celebration of scholarship and creativity

All IU East students, in every discipline, are invited to participate in Student Research Day, where we recognize the research, scholarly and creative work of our student scholars. Whether it’s writing a play, designing an experiment, discovering a fresh take on history or developing the next big idea, you have an opportunity to share that work with the entire IU East community on Friday, April 10, at Student Research Day. Online students as well as on-campus students can submit a proposal. Student work that results from independent scholarship from courses, independent studies, summer research programs, Honor’s projects, and creative endeavors will be all featured. In January, Family READ celebrates creativity. We Read. Explore. Ask. Discover! creativity through the arts and also with innovative thinking. READ is an initiative of the IU East Campus Library. We encourage families to read, explore, ask and discover together and we have curated a resource guide featuring recommended books and learning activities. The Indiana University Women’s Philanthropy Leadership Council provided funding support to purchase interesting and engaging non-fiction books for youth. IU East Archives Bicentennial Oral History Project Update: The Lasting Impact of Veramallay, Bodiker, and Weller

The IU Bicentennial is a year-long celebration, but we have been working on collecting stories for the Bicentennial Oral History Project since Fall 2016 and will continue to document the IU East experiences of alumni, faculty and staff. This Fall semester we interviewed three members of the IU East community who have contributed greatly by serving on the Chancellor’s Board of Advisors, fundraising for campus and raising scholarship funds for students. They are Professor Emeritus of Economics Ashton Veramallay, former Indiana State Representative and honorary IU East Alumni Dick Bodiker, and lifelong IU Alumni member and early supporter of IU East, Margie Weller. As the IU East R.E.A.D. (Read. Explore. Ask. Discover!) program continues through November, we highlight awareness and advocacy for women in technology, Native Americans, and careers in science, technology, math, and art. We share inspiring stories in memoirs and explore a diversity of role models and mentors. An online resource guide includes book descriptions, learning links, and activity ideas. With generous funding support from the Indiana University Women’s Philanthropy Leadership Circle we have been able to purchase non-fiction books for youth that introduce us to new people, places and ideas.
