Hey everyone. This being the first blog for the Pre-Professional Club here at IUE, I thought would talk a little bit about who we are and what we do. The Pre-Professional Club consists of hard working students passionate about pursuing a career in the health care profession. Members range from pre-medical and pre-dental, to pre-veterinary and pre-pharmacy (my favorite), but all are welcome to join to learn more about opportunities in the profession. Our main goals are to aid students in becoming competitive applicants for graduate schools in their field of choice. We do this by discussing preparations for entrance exams, community service projects, and job shadowing opportunities, all of which are crucial components to a successful, well-rounded application. While this may sound daunting to some, meetings are light-hearted and fun, and a great place to meet new people with similar interests and goals. We usually begin each meeting with meeting with a member briefly discussing something new and interesting to their desired field. We are currently working on getting guest speakers and opening up more volunteering opportunities for our members. However, our greatest asset to our members are other members. Several are going through the application and interview process right now and are able to offer first hand experiences. We are always looking for new members, so if you are already set on joining the health care profession or you are just curious and want to explore your options, we strongly encourage you to come to a meeting and join the Pre-Professional Club. Feel free to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions or meeting times.
