Students & Alum

Many graduates of our Creative Writing program go on to publish their work in a variety of forums.  We are incredibly proud of their accomplishments–check out what they’ve been up to!

Current Students

Senior Hannah Castor self-published her first mystery novel, Love Unchanging, in February 2018! An English Major with a focus in Technical and Professional Writing and a student in the Honors Program, Hannah started the book as a freshman, revising it for her Senior Honors Thesis under the mentorship of English faculty member Melissa Blankenship. The story revolves around the CIA, the FBI, and Senatorial murders.  Hannah worked with KAH Publishing in Cambridge City, Indiana, edited it herself and enlisted visual artist Leah Gabbard, a senior at Ball State, to design the cover.

“I was surprised at how long it takes to publish a book,” Hannah says. The best thing about it? “Just seeing the difference between the first and final drafts. It’s just so much better than what I started with!”

Hannah will be graduating with her B.A. in English in May 2018.  She’s at work on a new book, a romance mystery with Christian elements, as well as working part-time as a freelance editor.  Eventually her goal is to be a literary editor with a major publishing house.  Love Unchanging is available through kidsatheartpublishing.com.
