2018 ATHENA Leadership, Young Professional Leadership Awards® announced

Janis Buhl-Macy is the recipient of the 2018 ATHENA Leadership Award® for Wayne County and the ATHENA Young Professional Leadership Award winner is Jessie Pilewski.

Buhl-Macy and Pilewski were presented with the awards during the ATHENA celebration dinner held June 21 at Forest Hills Country Club in Richmond. The event recognizes women leaders who motivate, inspire and create positive change in the community.

IU East students hope to implement lessons learned at NCORE

This summer two students are learning more about diversity, social activism and how they could enhance opportunities at Indiana University East for students.

IU East students Taylor Webster and Mary Webster, sisters from Richmond, Indiana, attended the 31st Annual National Conference for Race and Ethnicity in American Higher Education (NCORE®) held in New Orleans, May 28 to June 2. They were joined at the conference by Latishea Varnesdeel, special assistant to the chancellor and chief diversity officer, Sheila Armstead, director of field/clinical assistant professor for the School of Social Work, and Cal Simpson, lecturer for the School of Business and Economics and advisor to the Multicultural Affairs Club.

A first-time collaborative course between the Indiana University East School of Humanities and Social Sciences and the School of Business and Economics allowed students to study how political, economic and cultural processes of globalization have changed relationships between China and the West.

IU East announces spring 2018 Chancellor’s List for spring 2018

At Indiana University East, full-time students with outstanding academic achievement are recognized by being named to the Chancellor’s List. The Chancellor’s List is tabulated each semester for full-time students. It includes any student in good standing at the conclusion of the semester who completed at least 12 credit hours of graded coursework and attained a 4.0 grade point average in that semester.

Marcy Jance, associate professor of business administration, has been named a regional recipient of the 2018 ACBSP Teaching Excellence Award. The Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) recognizes individuals each year who exemplify teaching excellence in the classroom.

IU East assistant professor selected to attend Eurasian migration workshop

Kristoffer Rees, assistant professor of political science, is one of 10 scholars selected to attend the Eurasian Migration 2018 Summer Research Lab at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), June 11-15. The summer workshop is offered through the Russian, East European, and Eurasian Center at UIUC.
