Indiana University East will host a special presentation by internationally known Australian performance and multi-media artist Stelarc. Stelarc will give a presentation on Thursday, October 25, beginning at 5:30 p.m. in Vivian Auditorium. The artist is traveling to five IU campuses around the state through the support of Indiana University Exhibitions (IUEX).

The event is free and open to the public.

Stelarc, one of the world’s most innovative artists, has been performing and creating multidisciplinary projects internationally since the late 1960s. Through a number of well-known performances/projects such as “Third Hand”, 1980, “Extra Ear: Ear on Arm” 2006, and his early suspension events, his goal has been to look at the body as a tool that can be enhanced by the incorporation and integration of technology. Stelarc utilizes technology to question physical parameters, and has explored alternate, intimate and involuntary interfaces that promote the enhancement and alteration of the physical body.

IUEX is a collaborative initiative between museum and gallery directors from IU campuses throughout the state. Directors from IU in Bloomington, IUPUI in Indianapolis, IU Northwest in Gary, IU East in Richmond, IU Kokomo meet monthly throughout the year to plan collaborative exhibitions and visual arts projects. The IUEX organization strives to make contemporary art accessible to IU campuses and communities through a shared and cooperative series of exhibits and events.
