HSS welcomes new academic advisor
Katie Baldwin Chaney is now the academic advisor for the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. Her start date at IU East was November 29.

As the academic advisor, Baldwin Chaney will advise students, provide information for academic services and career resources, and talk with prospective students and parents about the academic programs offered.

Baldwin Chaney earned her Master of Science in College Student Personnel from Miami University and her Bachelor of Science in Behavioral Sciences from Indiana University East. Previously, she was the special events coordinator for the Richmond Department of Parks and Recreation. She was also the literacy coordinator for the Wayne County

Baldwin Chaney was an academic advisor at the Krannert School of Management at Purdue University and a Commuter Center Graduate advisor for the Office of Residence Life and New Student Programs at Miami University. While at student at IU East, Baldwin Chaney was the volunteer action center coordinator in the Office of Campus Life.

Chancellor Paydar receives IUPUC award
Chancellor Nasser Paydar received the IUPUC Circle of Leadership Service Award on Thursday, November 11, in Columbus as part of IUPUC’s 40th anniversary celebration. Prior to coming to IU East, he led the IUPUC campus which experienced unprecedented growth and success during his time there.

Assistant professor, student present at diversity research and teaching symposium
Sheila Armstead, assistant professor of social work, and Lee Ann Goeke, freshman social work major, presented “Teaching Diversity Through Theater and Current Communication” during the Office of Diversity’s 2010 Diversity Research & Teaching Symposium. The symposium was held November 6 at Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Ind.

Armstead and Goeke’s presentation explored themes in the media and the different means of communication; the media stigmatization of various populations and issues; individuals socialization by family, institutions and communities; “ism’s” as a part of everyday life, and how the above themes influence our understanding and perception of people, issues and personal beliefs.

Vice chancellor, director of communications present at CASE V conference
Rob Zinkan, vice chancellor for External Affairs, and John Oak Dalton, director of Communications and Marketing, were invited to present “The Heretic’s Guide to Marketing to Millennials” during the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) District V conference on December 12. The conference was held in Chicago December 12-14.

CASE District V includes institutions from Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin.

While at the conference, IU East was presented with four 2010 Pride of Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) V awards for excellence in fundraising, marketing and alumni programs. CASE announced this year’s awards November 15.

IU East received a Gold Award for Best New Alumni Program, a Silver Award in Excellence in Design and Bronze Awards for Best Program in Annual Giving and Excellence in Design.
