IU East nursing professor receives FACET award

Sherry Rankin, clinical assistant professor of nursing at Indiana University East, has been selected receive the 2009 Faculty Colloquium on Excellence in Teaching Award. As an award recipient, Rankin joins a distinguished group of faculty selected among IU and its regional campuses.

“As a National League for Nursing Certified Nurse Educator, Ms. Rankin exemplifies the qualities of a master teacher who actively engages her students in the teaching learning process,” said Karen Clark, dean of the IU East School of Nursing. “In preparing the next generation of nurses, she orchestrates learning experiences that promote application of classroom content to the clinical arena.  Selection for induction into FACET recognizes Ms. Rankin for the quality educational experiences she provides for those enrolled in her courses.”

The award will be presented to recipients during the FACET Retreat to be held May 15-17 at the Potawatomi Inn in Pokagon State Park in Angola, Ind. Seventeen IU faculty were selected to join FACET this year.

FACET awards are presented to IU faculty members who have demonstrated their exceptional commitment to teaching and learning through areas of self-evaluation, course preparation, research, instructional skills, and student impact. An IU Presidential initiative, FACET is designed both to recognize and enhance outstanding teaching throughout the IU system and to promote continued development of teaching excellence among colleagues at IU and beyond.
