IU East School of Education welcomes community input for NCATE visit
The Indiana University East School of Education is hosting an accreditation visit by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) March 24-26, 2013. The School of Education has been accredited by NCATE since January 1992.
Interested parties are invited to submit third-party comments to the visiting team. Please note that comments must address substantive matters related to the quality of professional education programs offered, and should specify the party’s relationship to the institution (i.e., graduate, present or former faculty member, employer of graduates).

Correspondence, which must be received by NCATE no later than three months prior to visit, will be submitted to the institution for response via NCATE’s Accreditation Information Management System (AIMS). NCATE will not accept anonymous comments to the Board Of Examiners team or institutions.

The National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education’s dual mission is accountability and improvement in education preparation. The NCATE accreditation process establishes rigorous standards for teacher education programs, holds accredited institutions accountable for meeting these standards, and encourages unaccredited schools to demonstrate the quality of their programs by working for and achieving professional accreditation.
NCATE’s performance-based accreditation system, institutions must provide evidence of competent teacher candidate performance. NCATE accredited colleges of education are expected to ensure that teacher candidates know their subject and how to teach it effectively.
The U.S. Department of Education recognizes NCATE as a professional accrediting body for colleges and universities that prepare teachers and other professional personnel for work in elementary and secondary schools.
