Indiana University East’s School of Nursing is now the School of Nursing and Health Services.

According to Dean Karen Clark, “This name change reflects the school’s desire and vision to positively impact the quality of life of citizens in our service area. The change is the first step in expanding our strategic direction related to the addition of health science programming.”

The school’s updated mission is to create a community of learning that addresses society’s need for knowledgeable, competent, and caring nursing, advance practice nursing, and health care professionals while nurturing students, faculty, and staff.

Currently, the School of Nursing and Health Services offers a Bachelor of Science in Nursing on campus and an R.N. to B.S.N. Mobility Option available to students at IU East and off-campus sites in New Castle, Madison, Lawrenceburg, and Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. A consortium agreement with other IU Schools of Nursing also provides an online option for the completion of the R.N. to B.S.N. Mobility Option.  A Master of Science in Nursing is available with three track options: family nurse practitioner, nursing education and nursing administration.

In the future, the school plans to add health science programming. Clark said the first offering will be an online Bachelor of Science in Applied Health Sciences degree, adding that IU East is collaborating with other IU regional campuses and IU Online for the development of this program. Clark said the school is also looking to add a Bachelor of Science in Health Science degree as well.
