IU East to unveil new mascot

April 29, 2008 |

Indiana University East will unveil its new mascot at 11:30 a.m. in the Whitewater Hall lobby on Wednesday, April 30. The event is open to the community and will be broadcast live by WCTV.

IU East announced in November that it would replace its current Pioneer mascot to coincide with the university’s transition to a full-fledged bachelor’s and master’s degree-granting campus and its launch of intercollegiate athletics.

During an open nomination process, the campus received more than 165 mascot name suggestions.  In January the mascot steering committee – made up of IU East students, faculty, staff, and alumni – narrowed the list to five finalists: Bruins, Crimson Pride, Mavericks, Red Storm, and Red Wolves.  Public voting for a favorite finalist then took place online through February.

Those attending Wednesday’s mascot unveiling will receive a free t-shirt with the new mascot logo on it.
