IU East welcomes new faculty member to the School of Education

Josh Tolbert

Indiana University East is pleased to welcome Josh Tolbert as the newest faculty member to the School of Education.

Tolbert is an assistant professor of special education. He received his Ed.D. in Special Education/Educational Psychology and his M.A. in Liberal Studies from the University of Michigan-Dearborn. He received his B.A. in Art Education and Spanish from Western Michigan University.

Previously, Tolbert was a special education teacher at Huron High School in New Boston, Mich. He also co-taught courses in English, Biology, and Algebra II. He formerly taught at K-12 schools throughout Michigan including most recently at Hoover Middle School/Truman High School and Grogan Elementary School.

He has written articles on supporting students with learning disabilities in Spanish courses which have been published in Theory and Practice in Language Studies and Language Teaching and Research. Tolbert has also been a guest reviewer for the International Journal of Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities and SAGE Open.

Tolbert has provided guest lectures at the University of Michigan-Dearborn and at the Michigan Council for Exceptional Children Conference in 2014 and 2015.

He is a member of the Council for Exceptional Children, the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages and the Michigan World Languages Association.
