IU Trustees approve degree program in communications for IU East

July 3, 2008 |

Indiana University East is pursing the implementation of a Bachelor of Science degree in Communication Studies. The degree was approved by the Indiana University Board of Trustees Friday, June 20.

The degree program must next be approved by the Indiana Commission for Higher Education.

The degree will complement the Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Studies that the campus already offers. In an effort to give students as broad a choice of degree options as possible, the B.S. in Communication Studies will provide a more technical version of the B.A. While IU East encourages all students to study a foreign language, only the bachelor of arts degrees have a foreign language requirement.

The move to offer the program is part of IU East’s initiative to grow the baccalaureate and master’s degree options in order to meet the needs of the region.

“IU East continues to expand its program offerings to give students in the region as many options as possible,” said Larry Richards, executive vice chancellor for Academic Affairs. “The B.S. in Communication Studies should become one of those options sometime this fall after the Indiana Commission for Higher Education gives its final approval.”
