Heather Wheatley of Hagerstown and Ryan Doughty of Richmond have been chosen as the 2008 Lingle Scholars. The Honors Program scholarship award will continue throughout their pursuit of a four-year degree at Indiana University East.

Wheatley graduated in May 2008 from Hagerstown High School. While in high school, Wheatley was a member of the National Honor Society, Business Professionals of America and the Spanish Club.

While attending IU East, Wheatley will pursue a Bachelor of Education degree in Elementary Education. She is the daughter of Roger Wheatley of Montpellier and Tina Ross of Richmond.

Doughty graduated in May 2008 from Richmond High School. While in high school, Doughty was the first-baseman for the baseball team and he tutored students enrolled in the National Honors Society.

While attending IU East, Doughty will pursue a Bachelor of Science degree. He is the son of Pat and Dave Doughty of Richmond.

The Lingle Scholar award was established by Paul and Pat Lingle in October 2005 in order to keep the best and brightest youth in Wayne County. The scholarship is given to an incoming freshman student who has also been accepted to the IU East Honors Program.

Applicants must undergo an interview process with the Honors Program committee as well as with the Lingles. Recipients receive a $2,000 annual scholarship over four years.
