Indiana University East recognized several faculty and staff during the Honors Convocation ceremony held April 28. Presented during the ceremony were the Trustee IU East Faculty Recognition awards and Staff Service Recognition awards.
IU East students to perform with Choral Concert, Student Recital
Richmond, Ind. — The public is invited to attend the annual Indiana University East Chorale Concert at 7 p.m. on Monday December 8, at Central United Methodist Church, located at 1425 E. Main Street.
Indiana University East recognized several faculty and staff with awards for their service to the university during the Honors Convocation ceremony held April 24.
Tonya Breymier, associate dean for Nursing Graduate Programs and lecturer of nursing, and Brenda Buckner, assistant professor of education, are this year’s recipients of the Helen Lees Award, established in 1991.
Indiana University East received the Wayne County Area Chamber of Commerce Achievement of Excellence, Non Profit, Growth and Expansion award at its annual dinner held Jan. 24, 2014.
“I am both delighted and honored that IU East was selected for this award,” said Chancellor Kathryn Cruz-Uribe. “We are proud that we are graduating record numbers of students at both the bachelor’s and master’s levels. With more than 80 percent of IU East graduates remaining in our service region, we have a tremendous impact, and it is an honor to receive recognition for our efforts.”
The Indiana University East Honors Program inducted 46 students during the annual Honors Induction and Pinning Ceremony held November 21 in the Hayes Hall Campus Library. The Honors Program is an academic program that provides an intellectually enriched curriculum for highly-motivated students.
Chair of Mathematics Department participates on online education panel discussion
Markus Pomper, chair of the Department of Mathematics, was invited to be a panelist at a podium discussion at the Indiana Section of the Mathematical Association of America (MAA). The meeting was held on October 26 in Evansville, Ind. The panelists explored topics ranging from the challenges to teaching online classes in Mathematics, overcoming student problems, and instructional techniques.
Indiana University East presented two awards to Rob Tolley and Dr. Gregory Woods for their generous support of the campus and its students during the annual Spirit of Philanthropy Luncheon held November 14 at Forest Hills Country Club. Vice Chancellor for External Affairs Rob Zinkan presented the awards.
At Indiana University East, full-time students with outstanding academic achievement are recognized by being named to the Chancellor’s List, the highest semester-based academic achievement that students can attain. Ange Cooksey, senior lecturer in humanities, is this year’s recipient of the Helen Lees Award, established in 1991. Professor Emeritus Lees passed away in 1992, but her spirit continues in this annual award to honor a full-time faculty member who has taught at least 10 semesters at IU East.
