The exhibit “Industry and Art: Creation and Innovation for Communities” is on display in The Art Collaborative gallery space, in the School of Business and Economics, located on the second floor of Hayes Hall.

An opening reception and program for the exhibit will be held from 5-7 p.m. on February 26. A special introduction will be provided by Rob Quigg, treasurer of Richmond Baking Company, and Shaun Dingwerth, Richmond Art Museum executive director, will discuss the exhibit artwork.

This exhibit celebrates the rich heritage of the interplay between the arts and industry in Wayne County. The economic, geographical, religious and political environment made it possible for artists to find work in industries located in Wayne County, such as the Gaar-Scott Company, Wayne Agricultural Company and Hoosier Drill. This fostered an understanding and appreciation for fine art and had a profound effect on the growth of art and culture in this region, leading to Wayne County becoming an important art center in the Midwest.

The Art Collaborative is an interdisciplinary collaboration between the IU East Schools of Business and Economics and Humanities and Social Sciences.

The purpose of the Art Collaborative is to present and explore connections between creative processes in the arts and creation and innovation in business contexts.  Art Collaborative exhibits and events focus on issues important to business and society through the lens of the arts.  The Art Collaborative is a teaching gallery designed to be a learning resource for faculty, students, and the community at large. The Art Collaborative Digital Gallery provides global access to the Art Collaborative exhibits.

The community is welcome to view the exhibit from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
